It’s one of our favorite days of the year… NATIONAL MARGARITA DAY! There is nothing like a refreshing margarita that makes you feel like you’re right out on the beach. Margs are always a hit for girls night, vacation, a yummy mexican dinner, and you know where else? PARTIES.
Some of my favorite weddings I’ve attended have used margaritas as their signature drink. Some are spicy, some are sweet – ALL ARE GOOD.
One of my favorite margaritas is one I had at the Four Seasons Baltimore in the previously Michael Mina owned restaurant, Wit & Wisdom. I was able to track down one of my bartender friends there to get the recipe of what I felt was the PERFECT margarita just in case my brides may want to have it as a feature drink!
1.5 oz Espolon Blanco Tequila
.75 oz fresh lime juice
.75 oz simple syrup
.25 oz Combier (triple sec)
Add all ingredients to a shaker tin, fill with ice and shake for 10-15 seconds. Salt the rim of a rocks glass, add ice, and pour the contents of the shaker tin into the the glass. Garnish with a lime and viola!
Enjoy your margs ladies! Let us know of other featured drink recipes you’d like us to feature!
Our first Braids & Waves feature tells the story of our founder Chelsea + her husband Erik’s intimate ceremony in Big Sur, California on October 14th, 2018. Styled and inspired completely by the bride and her mother, take a glimpse into their magical celebration amongst the beautiful and natural landscapes of the Northern California coastline. We will allow the bride to fill us in on all of the details!
My relationship with Erik has been one full of adventure, so it only felt right to say our vows overlooking one of our favorite spots from a road trip we took in 2016 – Big Sur, California. Ever since our first trip there, we have always said it would one day be the place we would get married.
Our florals from Willow and Plum were absolutely magnificent and were hand delivered to us at our AirBnB in Pebble Beach. When Patti overheard we were having troubles with hanging our macrame decor at the ceremony site, she offered her gold hooks to borrow which made her the MVP of the day.
The bride’s accessories including earrings and hair pin are from BHLDN, a bridal boutique line under Anthropologie’s umbrella.
One of my favorite memories from our wedding day was the gift of letters from my mother. She contacted all of the women in my life that are important to me and had them each write a letter for me to read the morning of my wedding day. Multiple make-up touches were needed!
It was extra special to have my best friend/maid of honor with me on my wedding day. Surrounding yourself with people who ease your mind is a very important piece for selecting your bridal party!
It’s popular to do a photographed first look with your soon-to-be husband, but I encourage brides to also have one with their father. I will cherish these photos forever and I know my dad will too.
Fun Fact – our Air BnB host was hanging out of her bedroom window snapping pictures with her phone. She was so thrilled we used her lovely front yard for our first look photos. Our Air BnB was located on the magnificent and scenic 17 mile drive in Pebble Beach.
We didn’t chose our ceremony location until the day before! We wrote down a few recommendations from our vendors and drove the coastline to pick which spot we liked the best! It was true to our spontaneity and strangely didn’t stress me out! We ended up choosing a lookout in Garrapata State Park.
Those hooks from Willow and Plum showcased the macrame perfectly!
After family photos, Chelsea + Erik headed to the Bixby Creek Bridge for their first photos together as husband and wife. The bridge is a hot spot for tourists to stop and admire the scenery located right on Hwy 1.
One place we knew we needed to see on our wedding day was the sunset at Pfeiffer Beach. Despite a few trees being down on the winding road leading to the beach, park rangers led us through to the beautiful beach for some of my favorite shots of the day. Our photographer, Hannah, from Sparrow and Lace Photography allowed us to have so much fun during our shoot.
Our reception was held at the Big Sur Bakery located right off of Hwy 1. With the help of our coordinator Danielle, it was such a seamless evening full of laughter and family bonding. Our meal was absolutely delicious and we had such a lovely selection of local wines. They also made our wedding cake, which was vanilla with lemon cream and fresh berries. It was to die for. We cannot recommend the Big Sur Bakery enough!!
